LearningSoft Partners with
Zipit for New Handheld Computing System
Indigo™
Learning System handhelds bring learning and assessment to the student
masses
Pembroke Pines,
Fla. - Mar. 22, 2006 - LearningSoft, LLC is partnering with Zipit,
LLC to use its Zipit™ Wireless Messenger device as a platform for
the Indigo Learning System, a handheld computing system that delivers
fluid assessment and powerful student computing to the K-12 classroom.
"We partnered
with Zipit because they combine world-class engineering with mass-market
consumer production savvy," said David Cole, CEO of LearningSoft.
"We needed a powerful handheld device, with wireless networking,
that is sturdy enough for students and inexpensive for schools.
The Zipit device is transformed by our customized classroom network
operating environment and student user interface into a robust student
computer."
Teachers can
quickly create assessments with content directly correlated to their
state standards and send them wirelessly to the class. Students
use their hand-held devices to complete assessments, participate
in digital polls, view teacher distributed web sites, read e-books,
compose text, and for other activities. The results are instantly
returned to the teacher's computer where they can be viewed as formative
assessments, graded summative assessments and/or projections of
state test performance. Teachers can also exchange messages with
their students and distribute electronic content such as graded
assessments.
"LearningSoft has developed a
system that uses our technology to improve the classroom experience
- for both teachers and students, which is something we are proud
to be a part of," said Frank Greer, president of Zipit, LLC. "We
also look forward to working with LearningSoft and third party developers
of educational content to develop additional applications for our
platform. We expect this relationship to be fruitful for years to
come."
Currently
part of a large-scale pilot project in Hawaii, the Indigo Learning
System handheld devices will officially debut at FETC 2006 on March
22-24, 2006 in Orlando, Florida. LearningSoft will make available
a Software Development Kit (SDK) for interested third party developers.
